VLC media player is still not ready for Windows 10 Mobile platform, but we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. It won't be long until a beta version of VLC is available for download for everyone who has decided to go for Microsoft's mobile OS.

One of the developers, Thomas Nigro, has just announced on his blog that, beginning next week, Windows 10 Mobile users will be able to download VLC application. However, the beta version of the media player is available starting this week, but only for VIPs.

“We’ve been quite silent on our work toward building the VLC app for Windows 10. We didn’t want to set any deadline until we were 100% confident, so we wouldn’t overpromise and underdeliver,” explains Nigro.

Moreover, Nigro has announced that the application will only be available for devices running Windows 10 Mobile Redstone and that TH2 will probably not be supported.

According to him, the reason for this incompatibility is the fact that there are technical limitations around Background audio APIs, and bad drivers on the phones not receiving the RS1 bits.

Naturally, VLC will be released as UWP, so it will work on other Windows 10 devices as well. Let's hope the public beta will convince us that VLC is the best media player available on Windows Phone platform and that it will be as bug-free as possible.

One other piece of information that we've learned from Nigro is that the team behind VLC plans to release the application sometime in early May. This means that they have less than a month to fix any issues that users might discover during the public beta.

In the same piece of news, developers are also working on VLC Windows 10 Desktop SKU, which is supposed to enter closed beta in early May. There won't be any public beta for this one, but developers estimate they will be able to release it in mid-May.
